The Frankenstein Chronicles Review, British crime thriller series, staring Sean Bean.

What comes to your head when I say Frankenstein? A stitched up huge guy brought to life by a doctor... may be..

 This moster struggles to cope up in the human world and wants to take revenge... on one hand you feel scared of his nuances and brutality and on the other hand one also thinks why is it even given life? Who is the man who has given it life?

 Chronicles of Frankenstein focus on the monster but not the stitched up huge guy but the moster who gave it life and motives behind it which make the series special , interesting and real.

Guys it is a must watch.

Sean Bean,we all know him better as Ned Stark, the righteous, brave, handsome King in the North from The Game of Thrones series.. stars in this intriguing 19th century British period drama series called 'The Frankenstein Chronicles" on Netflix ,as John Marlott, a talented investigator and a good man. 

 

Before i tell you any further about the story, it is important to understand that the setup of the early 19th century with no laws related to the practice medicine. So, there were all kinds of doctors and surgeons available advising people on diseases , that is proper doctorates in medicine, some were just followers of these doctor who began their own practice and even quakes existed. 

The political setup during that time divided. For and against experimentation on human bodies for scientific discoveries. A law is under consideration (anatomy act) to give the dead to science for experiments , while other demands proper burials as per Christian beliefs. 

The series deals with this conflict between science and beliefs logically and beautifully. 

Now keeping that in mind , storyline goes like this....

The story begins with John Marlott's discovery of a body near a river. At first it looked like a girl child around 12-15 years of age but later in a shocking discovery it is found to be a composite of atleast 7 children stitched and reassembled together. 

What follows is then a search for a monster with a face of a man who did this act. and John gets sucked deeper n deeper to peel the layers. He has to know the truth of the beast, if he wants to now catch him and he has the support of the local politician.  

In the local parliament there is divide now. It is made to believes that this gruesome act on the bodies is done by the scientist to spark a revolt against the anatomy act. 

 

herein begins the unraveling of the series Frankenstein Chronicles where the dead now live! 

Why is a Frankenstein created ? To stop the bill or is to bring back the dead and win over death.

The series is filmed in Northern Ireland , which has lent a unique, eerie character to the series with it's gloomy grey and blue hues, inland rivers and stretches of empty landscapes .

 

This series is both thrilling and terrifying and will keep you at the edge of your seats ..Have to admit beautifully etched too with an ensemble cast of some great actors and performers.

 

The series as you all might have guessed is designed as a re-imagining of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein.

What you will like is...

1. This series interestingly depicts the entire inception of Frakenstein showing references to science, medicine , its education and laws surrounding it ..at a very nascent stage. Unlike the Frankenstein movie plot that straighaway cuts to the monster and his revenge.

2. mid 19th century era with precise setup, costune, archite. Social and political setup... Where the lines between medicine and the law governing it were rather blurry.

 

Its a Must watch for all Game of Thrones fans and Ned Stark fans. John Marlott does not disappoint.And also for all those of you who love British crime series,
