Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Review - #PremRatanDhanPayo #PRDP

The expectations are sky high every time a Salman Khan movie is released and why not?
He is known to break one record after another and if Suraj Barjatya is behind the camera the expectations are 10x.

Let's talk about the movies positives and negatives.

Positives :

1. It has Salman Khan. Usually nothing else is required in a movie if you manage to cast him. Amazing screen presence. No camera consciousness. His action/romance was always great, but in this movie his emotional act is worth watching. Only good thing about the movie is him.

2. Director's brand image - Suraj Barjatya  is the man who is respected for family movies and a release during Diwali with the mega star is sone pe suhaga.

3. Film canvas - breathtaking is the word. Extremely large. You will feel like you are in the world of Rajas and Maharajas. There is a cart/chariot scene with closeup and long shots &  it is amazing.
Sets and costume are very elaborate. The cost of the movie is heard to be about 100cr

Negatives

1. Direction - I think the direction was very ordinary because of a few critical reasons.

1A. Mr. Barjatya was caught in yester years where relationships/personalities are shown in perfect black or white. In today's time janta wants to see more realistic characters with shades of grey. Too sweet is diabetic on screen now.

1B. Salman Khan is now a big big big star. Somewhere director's effort was completely to lift his aura by compromising focus on story / real reasons for cracks in relationships.

1C. Other characters are completely forgotten. Usually in all Rajshri films all characters get memorable roles. Be it servants or hero's brother or villains. Because of the excessive focus on Salman, others are clearly seen underutilized, they are like props only.

2. Story - one can say the base story is good but very poorly executed.

3. Villains in the movie -are for name sake. No impact whatsoever. In glimpses both Armaan Kohli and Neil Nitin Mukesh have looked good and promised to scare people by their schemes. But nothing really happens till the end. Very predictable hijack of the hero by villains  and then brother meets and suddenly  Armaan dies.

4. Relationship saga - the equation between characters is well defined usually in Rajshri films. Director has stated the equation rather than establishing it. Who is angry with whom and why is it left to the audience imagination. Very direct.
Plus how the cracks in relationship heal suddenly is surprising. Feels like baseless ruthna and manana.
In my mind that is the biggest downside of the movie.

5. Songs - largely poor and they just pop up out of nowhere, except the title  track. But if you closely see the sequence  (bhai and behen reunion) is followed by this love song. Sooraj has gone wrong miserably. Himesh has disappointed as well. Nothing to hum.
Plus too many funny Dubsmash on the title track has made it even vulnerable.

Overall the film will earn money because of Salman Khan and Diwali chutti. However, the word of mouth is not good.
Go to cinemas only for Salman, nothing else is worth... My rating 2/5.
Overall business prediction 135-150cr approx I.e. Much lesser than the trade anticipated.
Had it been with any other hero like Shahid or Tiger or Varun etc, then the business would have not been more than 30cr.

Warning : THIS IS A SALMAN MOVIE AND ALL REVIEWS AND PREDICTIONS CAN GO FOR A SIX AS FAR AS BOXOFFICE PERFORMANCE IS CONCERNED.
