The great Stan lee of Marvel comics once said - The most important thing in a superhero is the "vulnerability". Such vulnerability attracts the audience to care for the hero. Some heros however I think have unclear powers, as many a time they are seen just doing every damn thing possible in this universe.
Few people might not like me critising their favourite superhero but I am acutally not critising, I love them myself but I am just highlighting why they don't connect with masses like a superman.
Superman is iconic character for a reason. Before we go forward on the list 3 superheros with unclear powers, it is important to understand, what is a clear definition of a well crafted superhero and to understand the same we shall take an example of Superman.
So, superman has
1. Absolute defined boundaries of powers. He has xray vision, can fly like a bullet, he is bullet proof, has super strength and has the famous laser eyes.
2. We are very clear on his Vulnerability - Kyrptonite make him weak and is a weapon that was once used to kill him. Energy from sun can heal him.
3. What is that he can't do - Cannot run fast, cannot scheme like Batman, cannot grow in size, is not a tech geek like Ironman,
In every superman movie, the fans and new viewers are very clear what he can do and what can harm him. People connect with him and feel for him.
Now, some characters that can virtually do anything and we have no clue about their vulnerability and therefore, we might enjoy seeing them but we don't put poster of them.
1. captain marvel - fly at the speed of sound, unlimited energy project and absorbtion, bullet proof, fly/run like bullet, 7th sense for upcoming danger , heals fast, immune to poison and much more. We don't know her vulnerability and hence we don't connect with her that much.
2. Same is with Shazam. He can fly, tranform in a male adult from a kid, has super strength, electricity generation and is fire proof. We like him because of his childish behavior but how far can it go?
3. Krrish - The most confused. Started a someone with enhanced strength, quick learning / reading abilities, can take giant leaps whiles running has suddenly transformed into a superman with telekinesis (ability to move object without touching them). He can now fly, talk to animals, has become bullet proof as buildings falls on him and he is still safe. I am sure he will have a laser eye beam soon. Again we don't know his vulnerablity now.
So, guys what do you think of my assessment. Do you want to add any other superhero to this list?
