How many time have seen Saif Ali Khan playing a Casanova and initially even liked him in movies like cocktail, love aaj kal, salaam namaste etc. But there came a point that his charm just got so repetitive that his movies did not even got decent opening at the BO like 'Happy ending'.
One started wondering, will Saif Ali Khan ever leave his playboy image where he refuses to get into a committed relationship?
Occasionally he did surprise us with his acting talent in Bazaar, Omkara and the recent blockbuster 'Tanaji'. Then the bigger question is why do 'Jawaani Jaaneman' at this stage of his career and that too after Tanaji?
The so called critics rogered this movie on the above premise but they are wrong this time. There was no better actor or let us say relatable actor to do this playboy (playman if that is such a word 😜) in Jawaani Jaaneman.
I will tell you why this movie works and how Saif brings it all alive.
1. Story - so far we had seen young boys playing Casanovas on the screen but this is the first we see a middle aged man playing such a role. He is well maintained/ groomed, charming and witty to make his way to women's bed. The story is about such a man who discovers that he has a fully grown-up daughter in a club. The story in a very realistic manner progresses to bring them closure. What I really liked about the film story is a subtle nuance I.e. growing fatherly love as the story progresses. The dimension of happiness changes from just partying to happiness of the daughter. From being careless to care giver.
2. The actors - Saif just nailed it. From a flirt, to playboy, to gracefully aging middle age man and finally as a father of a grownup daughter. He has a great variation. Alaya Furniturewala looked adorable and super confident. She is the next star.
3. Screenplay, music and locations are good too.
4. Nitin Kakkar's direction is very tight and engaging.
Overall a good dimension, we haven't heard such a story before.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars.
