Have you ever wondered how they (organizers) choose a winner?
Is the whole system transparent?
If it is people's choice then, it is just a play of number of votes. Where is the art being appreciated?
If it is critics, then who are these critics and what's their credibility? Film industry is a business center and people are known to extend favours and become friends / enemies every Friday. How do we know that this critic is being fair? Or the organizer isn't driving an agenda?
People are aware today and treat awards nights as farce and view them for entertainment purposes only. They know awards are many a something paid for, subject to favoritism, barter in lieu of a performance or even driving a agenda like feminism. Ya... It is a latest fad. Rightly so... We were taught to be chivalrous and extend that while majority of society doesn't understand this word at all therefore it had to be shouted loud by 'actions' like supporting female colleagues more than before. But sometime it might go against others unknowningly.
So, is Gully Boy so deserving that it sweeps 7 awards? Or is it because of "feminism"? What do you think? It is directed by Zoya Akhtar an accomplished director. A superb one. But is this film good enough to overshadow others?
Or, we are trying to recognize it to make up for the Oscar loss? It was our official entry this year.
To me a film that depicts deeper human emotions, varied layers in characters and has a purpose should win. Don't confuse purpose with real societal change always. It can be as simple as making people laugh their lungs out.
