Akshay Kumar has to be praised - first for untiring releases back to back and for now choosing meaningful cinema.
Omg, baby, holiday, gabbar and now Airlift are patriotic movies which are contemporary.
Talking about Airlift, it is movie about Indian who got stuck in foreign spoil when Saddam attacked. It was India's biggest evacuation effort for its people. Infact biggest so far by any country.
Well the movie is very intelligently scripted. It is not entirely patriotic. It about a man who is a hardcore businessman, a great negotiator. He calls himself a Rakshas and proudly - but only limited to business endeavors not in personal life.
It is because of this man's courage and efforts that rest of 1.5L + people were safely rescued. At various stages Ranjit Katiyal the character played by Akshay is seen negotiationing with ministers, sailors, government, troops etc etc. These negotiations were smartly done like his usual business. The screenplay is so nice that you will not feel as if these are tricks played by the hero but is shown as his natural ways of operations.
It is not a Charles shobraj in anyway. More like Guru - Dhiru Bhai.
The movie also shows that Indian govt reacted to the concern at the last. But also showed honest people in the government who support Rajiv in evacuation without seeking any limelight.
It also shows the change of heart when the country stood by their people and helped them to come back.
I particularly liked Rajiv's role. It is superbly written. It has shades of grey.
Perfect ruthless businessman, witty, arrogant but still human enough to stand by his people in tough times. superbly shown and we'll executed by Akshay. Certainly his best performance so far.
5/5 stars. Watch it with the family
